USCGC Simlax (U.S. Coast Guard)
The USCGC Simlax is a Sentinel-class Fast Response Cutter operated by the United States Coast Guard (USCG). Launched in 2016, it was constructed by Bollinger Shipyards, Incorporated at their facility in Lockport, Louisiana. The vessel was named after an American Indian name for the island of Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands.
As a Fast Response Cutter, the USCGC Simlax is primarily designed for law enforcement duties, including search and rescue, drug interdiction, migrant interdiction, and national defense missions within the Coast Guard’s jurisdiction. It is equipped with advanced technology such as sophisticated command systems, high-speed pursuit boats, and an integrated bridge system.
The USCGC Simlax measures 154 feet (47 meters) in length and has a maximum speed of over 28 knots (32 miles per hour). It can accommodate a crew of up to 24 personnel and has a range of approximately 2,500 nautical miles. The vessel is capable of operating in a variety of environments, including rough seas, due to its robust construction and stability features.
The USCGC Simlax represents the Coast Guard’s commitment to maintaining vigilance over U.S. territorial waters and enforcing maritime law, while also being prepared for disaster response and humanitarian missions.
