VMFA 312 Fight (USMC)
VMFA 312, also known as the “Checkertails,” is a United States Marine Corps Fighter Attack Squadron operating under the command of Marine Aircraft Group 39 and the Third Marine Aircraft Wing. The squadron specializes in the operation of the F/A-18 Hornet aircraft, providing air support for ground troops during combat operations. The Checkertails were first established in 1942 during World War II and have since seen action in conflicts such as the Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. VMFA 312 is based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California.
